Update (27 January 2024)

Near the end of 2023, Julius Krein of American Affairs wrote a lengthy essay on Hamiltonianism and Jeffersonianism at this stage of the 21st century. Much of Krein’s conclusions resonated with the ones which I had made in last week’s post, most notably the idea that, despite rampant opposition to Neoliberalism on both the American Left and American Right, a genuine alternative remains forthcoming. The absence of an alternative to Neoliberalism has led to elements of the American Left and American Right to stubbornly cling to the fading old order for lack of anything that could overcome Neoliberalism. This resulted in the revisiting of concepts and ideas which once had staying power in the late 20th century but have no chances of adapting to the 21st century, much less the 22nd. A combination of political economy and political philosophy is throughout the essay, all of which deserve an entire separate post to fully explore them.
